Kikli, the dance cum song for long life of males

Kikli happens to be the dance that is performed by the young girls in the province of Punjab. In Kikli, the young girls sing songs for the long life of their males – like brothers, father and husbands. The girls, whether young or adult, make the pair and do the Kilkli.

The girls get their arms crossed, hands joined together, fingers interlocked and their feet touch each other’s so that the balance can be maintained, then they stretch themselves backward and whirl till the time, they start feeling giddy and then ultimately drop down while laughing and enjoying.

While they dance, they chant:

Kikli kleer di,
Pag mere vir di,
Daupatta mere bhai da, Phitte mun jawai da.
