Santoor, a Kashmiri instrument

Santoor is a spongy instrument that injects soothing pleasures in the ears. Once you bump into the instrument, you cannot help leaving the sounds behind. You get magically caught into the waves of the sounds. It is a trapezoid-shaped hammered dulcimer with 70 strings which are tied on nails on the left side of the Santoor and then they are found being stretched on the sound board on top to the right side.

Santoor playing is done with the pair of curved mallets which are made of walnut and they are held between the index and middle fingers.

Santoor is mostly famous among the Kashmiris and they are found playing it though it is played all over the country.
